Today is Silver Sunday hosted by Age UK – a day where communities come together by hosting fun and free activities for older people. Silver Sunday has been running since 2012, aiming to keep people connected in their local communities. Last year there were an amazing 1,300 events hosted across the UK.
Silver Sunday also takes place during Homeshare Week – the national awareness campaign hosted by the Homeshare UK network of Homeshare providers. Throughout this week we have been celebrating Homeshare, sharing stories from real Homeshare households and spotlighting the benefits for all involved, including family members of householders.
Homeshare helps people to stay independent in the places they love to live and builds community connections. It brings together two people to share a home; typically, a person who needs a bit of extra help to live independently in their home is matched with someone who has a housing need, looking to live sociably and affordably.
Each person has something they need and something to give, it is a reciprocal relationship where they share time, skills and knowledge with one another.
Members of Homeshare UK carefully match people together and support both people throughout the arrangement, providing in person localised visits and check-ins.
If you’d be interested in Homesharing or know someone who would, find your local Homeshare provider here.
